Proposed IT Investment region around Bhubaneswar
Central govt. schemes, IT, IT, Back office, BPO, ITIR, Khordha July 28th. 2009, 4:24pmFollowing is an excerpt from a report in Business Standard.
… IL&FS-IDC had earlier submitted its draft report to the state government in February this year. However, the project had to be reworked by IL&FS-IDC in the wake of the Centre’s proposal to develop an airport in the same area.
Sources close to the development said, the plan to develop the airport has been okayed by the state government and the proposed airport would be a part of the IT investment region.
The airport will come up on an area of about 2,300 acres close to the site of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Orissa which is being set up over 835 acres of land at Jatni, about 20 km from the city.
… The IT investment region (ITIR) in Orissa will occupy an area of 40 sq km (around 10,000 acres) between Bhubaneswar and Khurda.
This ITIR project is expected to be fully operational by 2020.In the final project report, IL&FS-IDC had included among other things an airport, a global IT training centre, a bio-tech park and a science city spread over 350 acres.
The Infocity-II project being set up by the state government on over 600 acres of land at Janla on the outskirts of the city would also be a part of the IT investment region.
The ITIR would be developed in two phases out of which 20 per cent of the investment is committed for the first phase while the balance 80 per cent of the investment will come in the second phase.
The entire cost of the project is yet to be ascertained. While the Centre will provide external infrastructure for the project in the form of roads, the onus is on the state government to acquire land for the project.
According to the project plan of IL&FS-IDC, 40 per cent of the area of the ITIR would be earmarked for the processing units of information technology (IT) and ITes sectors (IT enabled services) as well as electronics and hardware manufacturing units.
The remaining 60 per cent of the area would be devoted to the non-processing facilities like research and development centre, technological institutes of national and international repute.
This apart there would be a central business district, an integrated township comprising social infrastructure facilities like schools, hospitals and shopping malls and external infrastructure like roads.

Orisa should go Gujrat way.Narendra Modi once said that he is going to have 3 to 4 more cities like ahmedabad in his state and its happening there. What about orissa.Seems we have just one city which is actually called a city and rest is jungle. Its good that we are planning investment in bbsr but how far we are doing for rest of the cities in orissa. Not even 50%.Whenever the elcetion is round the corner politicians make a bee line to other places. This is disgusting.leaving the north east all the states in india do have all round development othere than the capital cities of their respective states.

In Karnataka State each Minister is given additional responsibility of a City or a District apart from their regular work. So, there is a Minister to oversee the development activities in each City be it Bangalore or Mysore or Dharwad. Do we see that kind of effort in Orissa? Cities are left to the mercy of local Municipal authorities and at most some local people sought for their development but the Govt. is missing in action.

The govt of orissa blames the centre for the step mother attitude towards orissa but what about the state govt which is doing the same with other places within orissa leaving bbsr and cuttack. Before pointing out fingers on the centre we should atleast make our base strong enough.

The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Airport Developers Ltd is on its way to picking up five airports in rural Maharashtra on a 95-year lease for a
total of only Rs 63 crore from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
Government officials told TOI on Wednesday that MIDC passed the proposal last week and recommended to the state that Yavatmal, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad and Baramati airports be leased. MIDC officials said they could have got a higher price in a better economy but industries secretary A M Khan said the government was satisfied with the price it was getting

This is not possible in orissa now. The following is the reason:
BBSR has the only airport in orissa and it’s far from developed. There are very few flights operating from it. The reason is simple – it’s demand and suppply. There are not much demand of flights to and from bbsr. I have seen flights running half empty on many routes. When there is such low demand, private airlines will not start the service. This is the reason Jet discontinued it’s service many years ago. When u have the capital city’s airport in this condition, it will not be possible to build airports in other parts using a private company. It’s just not viable business for them. Reliance would not have invested in these airports unless it sees profit in it. The only way out is govt effort should be made to have AAI develop the airports at different locations like jharsuguda/rourkela etc.

Mr Kanhu is absolutely right, now even bhubaneswar is not among the good cities in india. You can’t compire karnataka or Gujurat with orissa. The most important thing we should remember is that we have half of the population are tribal and last 60 years the developement is absolutely nothing. The developement of different region are not even. There are a lot of reasons for that.Thats why let the gov to build atleast a good city(i.e ctc and bbrs combined) then automatically other regions will develop. That doesn’t mean we should overlook other areas.Naveen pattnaik is triying his best to develop 4/5 good cities but overnight the junked system can not be replaced. However like Chitta sir is fighting with the system through the web, we people should do something to ignite the spark among minds of the repective citizens to demand for their right. In my point of view we odias excelled in everything but our inherited lazy and always satisfied nature lead us down.

This is to inform you all that our respected CM again done the same that we are against of.He has proposed to set up the NID at BBSR instead of any other place in Orissa.I dont understand what so special about BBSR.We have already the IIT,NISER and the IIIT.Now what else he wants.People make hue and cry just because of his BBSR centric mentality.Once i mentioned in one of the Blogs eveything and anything that is to be setup is to be done at BBSR..seems thats coming to be true.I request the Centre to agree to setup the NID only if its some other place other than BBSR-CUTTACK region.enough is enough..

There is a strange argument offered by people in Orissa that since our capital is not developed enough, other cities should wait and not ask for any development. If despite putting all the institutes, investemt, infrastructure and political sympathy the capital is not developing then it can be concuded that the capital of orissa lacks that potential. For this why penalise other potential urban centers of Orissa? If comparable town of Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela are better off in other states, these cities have got every right to aspire for a similar level of development and why tag them with a laggard capital city which is refusing to grow.
