Secondly power, water and road infrastructure is required to be provided free of cost.

State Government and AAI will sign a MOU for development of the airport.
Following is an excerpt from a report in orissadiary.com.

And why no investment at Rourkela airport ? Is Rourkela again ignored as usual.

There is a very short window for Rourkela airport to start commercial operation.
Unless it starts commercial operation before the Jharsuguda airport is ready, Jharsuguda (100kms away from Rourkela) will become the serving airport for the area and Rourkela would have to wait for a long long time after that for any decent commercial service out of Rourkela airport.
So Rourkela people should do their best to convince some airline to start commercial operations in 2010.
===
Note that Mysore has a new airport but commercial airlines are not starting operations there as Bangalore airport is only 140-150 kms away.

Domestic airports at Berhampur and Rourkela would serve the interests of the state better. ofcousrse distance from an existing airport is a factor but should not be the only factor in deciding the location of an airport. it should also take into account passenger demand and feasibility. If the state govt puts its weight behind, than Berhampur airport could be developed in collaboration with Ministry of Defence for which there has been proposals and surveys in the past. Similarly, the Rourkela airport should be developed with SAIL.

Chitta Sir,
Industry around Jharsuguda is no bigger and better than Rourkela.The industrilization scenario at JSG started fortnite back and Vedanta is putting its weight behind the airport and is demanding that.It may be noted that at the same time its setting up the university at BBSR region for which the state govt has got a soft corner for the company.Coming to my point Rourkela population is highest in westren orissa and the and per capita income is best among the whole of Orissa.when people have got the power to purchase then why cant we start opertaions at RKL.Why cant JSG wait for another 10 years so that it comes into a shape.FYI today even there are some trains in the HWH-MUMBAI main line that dont stop at JSG.So when a train is not considered to stop at JSG then how come flight service is justified.Rourkela is the only place in the western orissa where flight service is justified.Per capita income is a major factor which JSG lacks at the moment.Rourkela is the best suitable location and flight services can be started with minimum investement.WHen JSG airport has been setup we can bat for Rourkela to make it an international level.

Alok:
Rourkela has an airport that can be made ready to function in a few weeks time if some private company shows interest in it. Rourkelites need to pursue with various airlines for that. The governments seem to have decided that Jharsuguda is more central and strategic. So, as I said earlier there is a short window available for Rourkela people.

Sir,
If govt can show intrest for JSG then what its been doing when industrilization was no where at JSG.Lets say 5 years back.Why all of sudden this decision.
Editor: Unfounded conspiracy theory deleted.
Its quite strange that JSG will catter the needs of Rourkela.Rourkela has been neglected in the past and still in the hands of mercy.The govt if it wants can have round of talks with SAIL and the airport at RKL can come into reality.Now i wont believe that govt cant have talks.Why wait for another 3 to 4 yeas when we have the solution and face the reality in a matter of weeks time.We cant blame SAIL for all thats happening .The state govt is equally responsilble.Its like Pune is serving Mumbai.Complete disappointment.

Jharsuguda is totally justified in having an airport as it is in the centre of all major towns of Odisha including Rourkela and Sambalpur.It is also the fastest growing commercial hub in the state and a well developed airport is the need of the hour.
