It looks like it really is going to be like IISER or even better because it has a bigger budget and better funding source (DAE). However, it still awaits cabinet approval.

1) All links are old and please update it to new link. None works at this moment.
2) What makes teh author to think “It looks like it really is going to be like IISER or even better because it has a bigger budget and better funding source (DAE).”
Does a slightly bigger budget makes an institute superior ? IISER takes student from IIT exam though most of the rank holders are around 5000. Definitely these are ordinary guys and cannot be called as equibalent to an IITian. NISER chose a different method for its screening and tiem will say. The most important thing is who is teaching them !! It is sure that the local bodies will teach and they are simply JUNK in their field. One can compare the faculty list of IISER Kolkata and NISER (still it is not there). It is highly possible that most of teh teachers will be hired from UU including in Physics stream. Training and how to fight in reserach is much more important than a slightly bigger budget to make it superior.
3) Today Telegraph (12/May/2007) mentioned the new campus is supposed to be at Naraj of Cuttack but previously it was reported to be in Khurda. Still its not clear where it is coming up !! So confusing on land selection.

(1) Thanks
(2) Very good points.
(3) The location is near Khurda. The Telegraph news is outdated in that respect.

I suppose a little clarification regarding the NISER faculty won’t do the visitors (of the site) much harm.NISER faculty will be from IOP Bhubaneswar,HBCSE and TIFR-institutes small by no standards. The propounder of the UU faculty theory may have been better off with a bit more research. Further NISER will absorb students from its own examination-NEST and not IIT discards(Students waiting to jump onto IITs in their next attempt

The classes are supposed to start in August so we will soon know where the faculty will be from. In regards to having NEST, I was also given the explanation that they wanted to not take IIT discards and hence wanted to have their own test. I was also told that a large number of students from IISER Pune wanted to go to IIT and were appearing for the IIT entrance exam after spending a year in IISER Pune. Lets hope having NEST at least partially overcomes that issue. But it was puzzling that the NISER site was slow and down for a significant period of time, just when prospective students would have been looking for it.
