IIT Bombay mentoring IIT Indore?
June 6th, 2008
Update: As per Economic Times, IIT Bombay has expressed its inability to mentor the IIT in Indore this year as it is already mentoring IIT Gandhinagar.
Business standard reported the following.
……the human resource development ministry is planning to do away with the "society" system for the new IITs to hasten the process.
To award degrees, a body must be a university that is created under the central or state legislature. IITs and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) were created by a special Act of Parliament permitting them to award diplomas. They existed as "societies" and were later converted into an institute of national importance by calling them IITs and IIMs.
By doing away with the "society" requirement, the ministry can directly incorporate the new institutions into the IIT Act and declare them institutes of national importance, equivalent to universities capable of awarding degrees.
…….IIT Bombay will be mentoring two new IITs to come up in Gujarat and Indore, while IIT-Kharagpur will be mentoring IIT-Orissa for three years.

I belong to Indore. I studied in IIT Kharagpur for my PG in year 1980-1982 and joined Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Last 26 years I am working with the same organisation and currently Heading – Engineering Department at L&T Case Equipment Private Limited (A 50-50% JV between L&T and Case New Holland Global NV USA) at Pithampur situated in Industrial Area 45 Kms away from Indore.
IIT Powai certainly has taken up a huge task/responsibility of setting up an Institute of highest standard. I would be more than happy to extend any support/help that is required in this process.
With Best Wishes.

I am a student of IITBOMBAY (1st yr).
Actually IITB has taken a huge responsibility to mentoring the the IITINDORE .
because IITB is also passing from transforming period.Due to economic crisis all the graduate of IIT is not placed yet (but in normal circumstances all students are placed till end of december ).
Also the intake of students is increasing due to reservation kota.
So the infrastructure of IIT is also facing serious problem to keep it’s standard on a high level.
it’s good to open new IITS but not on the stake of old IITS.
Hopefully when economic crisis end the all IITS (including new IITS )will come with flying colours on the map of world level.

Mr. UDAY SHARAD KULKARNI ,
Being an IITian…I want to know something frm u. My son is now in dilemma of sellecting a course among the following institutes:
Any of the New IITs (Prefer among Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad and Gujarat.
IIST (Kerala)
Any of the NITs (Preferable Calicut, Trichi or Warangal.
He has the chances of getting in the above institute.
He is interested in IIT and IIST equally. He likes Avionics or electronics-electricals.
Wat will b ur suggestion in this case? Do u belive dat the Salary Scale in ISRO is too low?
Await ur answer and thank u
Neil
