  I met Dr. Laxman Mohanty at BITS Pilany in his student days,in early 80s,perhaps in 81.Since then My relationship is a personal and private one ; with this Genius,kind hearted excellent human being.He is a gem of a Man.Even in his ilness He was so genial to his sorrounding friends and relatives that ;its hard to believe that He will take this extreme dumb step! We Hoped that He will come out this breif spell and again lead us with his vision and wisdom.
  Orissa lost a distingushed Son too early.Let us build on his achievements and contributions to the world .
  That will be the best respect to this Human Genius !
  Let;Lord Jagnnath bless his near and dear ones to bear this tragic loss.

  I opened the site with excitement because i am going to join future bhubaneswar school but i felt very sorry to get the sad news about the demise of Dr.Laxman Mohanty(whom i dont know personally but as i am the member of the organisation i felt sorry.)
  His dream of establishing school for the children, who are the future of our country is really appreciable and praise worthy.
  I will try my level best to achieve the organisation\\\”s objectives and to cover up his expectations and I hope everyone to contribute to fulfill his dream.

  I am yet to recover from the shock of my lifetime due to the sad demise of Dr. Laxman Mohanty. It is a huge loss to the whole academic fraternity. Yet another setback to development of educational infrastructure of the poor state of Orissa.
  In 2007-2008 B-School placement season at Institute of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar; I was a member of placement cell headed by Dr. Mohanty. We were the pioneer batch.Hence, it was really an asking task to put everything in place as far as the good placement was concerned. But by his untiring effort, he led us to very succesful placement week.
  I fondly remember one incident when he was negotiating for profile and salary for us with our prospective employers.It was so intense that I felt as if he was pleading for success of his own children.
  Mohanty Sir,we all are proud of you. Our heartfelt condolence with Neharika ma’m and her family.

  It is a personal loss to me and came as a big shock. I had also heard about his plans to establish good schools of international level. I am sure his other partners will carry out his cherished dream of making Sillicon a total education service provider in Orissa. Mr. Mohanty visited IIT Kanpur before starting the school project and detailed out the plans in an absorbing discussion. I am extremely saddened to hear the news. It is just unbelievable for me. May god bless to rest his soul in peace.

  I am extremely sad and find it too hard to bear the pain of losing our Sir who so dearly took care of us in every possible respect when we pursued our studies (MCA 1998-2001) at Silicon School. He was instrumental in placing the essence of high quality academics at Silicon school. I remember so many moments shared with him and I keep asking God why it ever happened to our dearest Sir who was so Genius yet the most humble person we have ever come across. He did every thing possible for our career development and we remain indebted to him for the guidance he gave us to build our career. He carved career of thousands and all of us pray in unison for his soul to rest in peace. I still remember the time that he so enthusiastically drafted the Digital Digest publication for benefit of all. Also remember sitting late evenings to write the publication for IT digest in the ITAO meet. Still remember his every day lived in simplicity. Once again I pray God, let his soul rest in peace. It is the greatest loss to Indian intellectual society. Under his guidance Future Feet School could have achieved great success and now the onus lies with every one to pledge and work harder to fulfill his dreams for the betterment of the society. Thank you sir for what you are. You remain etched in our heart for all the time. You are immortal.

  As a member of my family, I know Laxman Mohanty since he was a child. Being an intelligent & hard working child, he achieved the residential scholarship from Govt. of India and admitted in Ravenshaw Collegiate School & further transfered to Ramakrishna Mission School, Deoghar(Bihar) in class 6th. He studied there upto 12th stadard.
  He did his B.E. in Electronics from BITS, Pilani. Then he joind PTI (Press Trust of India) for a period of 1 year.He & his colleagues (Sanjeev,GP, SP,Suchitra) founded the first IT company of Orissa -ORICOM.
  Then they established Silicon Institute with only MCA program, which was later expanded to B-Tech program & named as “Siolicon Institute of Technology”,which is now graded as the no.1 pvt. Engineering college of Orissa.
  By the mean time he completed his Ph.D from BITS,Pilani & joined as a Visiting Professor at Institute of Petroleum Management,Gandhinagar.
  He got married to Professor Niharika Vohra,presently working as the associate Prof. in Psychology in IIM-Ahmedabad.Because of certain health problems he went fon Bypass heart surgery at Ahmedabad.
  He has written more than 50 no. of books on computer in both English & Oriya.He had not presented those books to “Orissa Vigyan Academy”.Otherwise he would have been awarded with “Vigyan Academy award ” for popularising science since 10 years back.He was the first person to publiush computer text books in Oriya for the sake of Oriya medium students named as “Asa Sikhiba Computer”(published by Vidyapuri,Cuttack)for class 6th-10th(5 vol.). Fortunately I’m the co-writer of these books.
  Because of his constant encouragement & strong support I was able to publish the short story collection”Satabdira sesa Anka” and book on solution to Millenum problem “Ajanka Khristabda Sikhya” and “Asa computer janiba”.All these books are published by Vidyapuri ,Cuttack.
  He achieved so far by blassings of his parents,brother-in law Engineer Udhab Ch. Biswal,sister Annapurna Biswal & his uncle Jagannatha Bal & other family members…
  He was son of late Surendra Nath Mohanty,Smt.Suvadra Mohanty of village Vairabpur,PS-Basudevpur,Dist-Bhadrak.
  Recently he was about to start a school of international standard at Bhubaneswar.
  The manuscript of 2nd eddition of “Asa Sikhiba Computer”
  (5 vol.)were with him for further correction.He was about to send those back to me within 7 days and I had been waiting to get some messages from him & will be waiting forever……..
  I could never expect a human genius like him who looked so strong mentally,could ever take such an extreme step.

  It was a Ganesh Puja at BITS Pilani Oriya Samaj, where I first meet Dr. Mohanty. He was a very quite, loving and endering person. When I enquired about him, Prof. SB Misra said he is a ex-bitsian. Thereafter he worked with our Management Department of BITS Pilani for a year and half. He was always alert, sensitive and full of ideas. I noticed this while attending several meetings and discussions. Many a time I felt proud of his prowess. He was very bold and communicated his ideas with lot of conviction.
  May God bless him all the bliss and give enough strength to his family.

  I heard about Dr Laxman Mohanty since 2005 as a Scholar and Social worker. We used to subscribe the special Calendars he was publishing with the inscription of useful thoughts of famous personalities of the world. But alas! I never knew that he was the youngest brother of one of my childhood friend Bharat Mohanty and belonged to my village: Basuddevpur in the district of Bhadrak. I pray “Let his soul rest in peace”.
  Here , I would like to inform one more sad news for the education lovers of Orissa: Dr. Niranjan Mohanty, Prof. in English of Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan who was also a renowned poet in English died of heart attack on 28th July 2008. He also belonged to our village: Basudevpur in the District of Bhadrak.   We still cannot believe that ‘Nani’, as we fondly called him, is no more. He was an inspiration for all of us. He was a man of virtue, honesty and kindness. He loved us a lot. His child-like innocence has touched our hearts. He used to play with us as if he were our friend and he were a child. His sweet smile could melt any heart. The elders in our family say that Nani would travel alone to his residential school in Deodhar, Bihar from home, when he was of our age. Apart from being an entrepreneur and a social activist, he was also a good artist and author with deep thoughts and emotions.

  He shall live with us forever in our sweet memories.
  Nani – We all love you and shall miss you always……

  So shocking is the my Mamu’s death ! Laxman mamu is not with us- I can never accept it. How can I ?
  I spoke to him 10-12 days back and invited him to Bhubaneswar, and he was so enthusiastic ! We planned so many things to do during that time including a visit to Puri.
  He had solution to each and every problem of others.
  How could he get himself entangled in his own problems?
  Couldn’t find any way to be out of it?
  He was very hard working person whose work was neverending.Then how could he get tired and exhausted so early?
  He was a very goal oriented and ambitious person. Then how could he get deviated from his aims and ambitions so easily?
  He had lot of patience and andurance,how could he be so impatient so painfully.
  He loved all of us so much, so as we.Then how could he think to part from all of us forever.

  I don’t have any answer to all the above.We can never think a life without Mamu.He was so gracious for all of us .There is a vacuum everywhere.
  I wish he could come back to us again……..

  i still can’t belive my kaka is no more.first when i heard about d accident from my dad,nothing was coming 2 my mind except my kaka’s face.i can’t describe his personality,as i’m too small 4 dat.As i know him,he was the example of pure simpleness. now a days i’m always remembering d days i’ve spent with my kaka in kerla.my dad always 1st asked kaka before joining me into any institution.In my family every body asked their children 2 b like kaka{laxman mohanty}.my bada-bapa & my dei called him bagula,i don’t know why may b that was kaka’s nick name.when i was studying in silicon, i was feeling proud when my classmates & my faculty called me as director laxman mohanty’s nephew.no-body belived me when i say people that my dad are 5 brothers and they are named as RAM(bada-bapa),BHARAT(my papa),LAXMAN(kaka),SATRUGHNA(sana kaka),SARADA(ttiki -bapa) as they reply me these are the charecters of ramayana.my kaka was the most educated person of my family.my dad tell me always that my kaka has made his bright career without taking a single money from family.he studied in some top institutes of india & abroad by the help scholarships he got. i can’t describes his achievements,they are bigger than my thinking.every boys& girls of my generation in my family including me,always scared to come infront of kaka as we were all unable to answer the questions of kaka.one of my brother babuli bhai& me always trying to copy my kaka style, i know no-body will like my kaka in this world.
  I CAN’T DO NOTHING FOR MY KAKA EXCEPT PRAYING TO GOD TO BRING BACK MY KAKA……………..

  As a part of Silicon I will miss Laxman sir since brilliant ideas come from him and flows through many of us. More significantly I will miss him as an extremely creative , novel and genuine person. A simpllicity unmatched,gentleness rare and humility that is seldom, Lakman sir was an author of all these and was an example to all of us how things still can be different in a very mundane world. His unexpected death has proved once again that exceptionally good and talented people are taken away from us by God himself.God can not spare such people to humankind for long.He needs them up there.

  Silicon Family deeply grieved with the sudden demise of Dr Laxman Mohanty who was a founding member of Silicon. Silicon has lost a visionary and protector of values.

  We still are not able to cope with the unfortunate event happened last week. We still need time to believe the fact that Dr. Laxman Mohanty (we call \’Laxman Mamu\’) is no more.

  He alongwith Neharika (his wife) visited us just another week ago in Hyderabad. We enjoyed 24 hrs. fully. He was so lively, jovial; we enjoyed food in resturant; visited all around hitec city; had a brief visit to Prajapita Brahma Kumari Centre in Hyderabad, even played Ludo at home. We discussed issues on investment, current market situatuions threadbare. He was really beaming with his red T-shirt, we fondly commented \’Mamu, you are looking sexy\’. Even we commented on his white hairs and he promised to get it colored.

  We in our wild imagination could not think that we will attend his funeral, in a couple of days. How can God do such injustice to us?

  We really cannot miss him. Let the all mighy help his soul rest in peace and give us strength to cope up.

  I am extremely sad and find it too hard to believe that our Laxman Sir no more with us who used to took care of us so deary. .Never in my life i have seen such a selfless and simple person who believed in simple living and high thinking in life.
  Specially the 1st batch (MCA 1998-2001) from SSIT shall never be able to forget his efforts to get us well placed .
  The genious in him could have done so much for the society.
  Where I stand today is because of path shown by him and shall always be indebted to him.
  Under his guidance Future school could have reached heights.His demise is great loss to all of us.

  I still can’t believe my “MAMU” the Role Model of our family is no more.
  From my child hood he had been the inspiration of life. In every step he always helped me to build the confidence in my self. I still remember Mamu’s encourgaement to learn how to ride a two wheeler using his’s unique Black Bajaj Chetak about 17 years before. It was Mamu who was always able to convince my POP to allow me to visit new places and I think for him only I could see most of the places in India.

  I remember he was one of the happiest Men when I got my 1st Job. I remember his advice that time to Listen to others more and talk less at office to understand others.

  Mamu was and will be there in my soul for ever. I am not going to miss him as I know he will be always there with us.

  I know God wanted Mamu for some other great purpose. I pray God to keep his soul in peace.

  It is with immense grief that I write about Mr. Laxman Mohanty. I got to know him as recent as 2003 through one of his school time friends who happens to be my senior in profession. The one thing that struck me was his humility and politeness. Though almost fifteen years elder then me, Mr. Mohanty became a good friend and guide encouraging me and my colleagues in our new venture in Bhubaneswar.

  I also had the opportunity to assist him in a few issues where he needed my advice. His dedication and enthusiasm was infectious and I always wondered why more learned and accomplished persons are not like him. His spirit while designing and discussing the successive Silicon annual calendar is still very fresh in my mind. On the 14th August, I saw a small clipping in TOI about death of an Oriya scholar in Ahmedabad I was shocked and could not get his thoughts out of my mind. It had been many months since I spoke with him and while visiting Oricom recently in the last week of July I heard about him and enquired about his likelihood of visiting Bhubaneswar in the immediate future. In fact I was going to speak to him when I read the news of his untimely demise and kept on wondering why such a talented persons with strong values had to give up so soon.

  I pray for Mr. Mohanty and hope his values and spirits will be honored and followed in the two institutions that he helped establish and was so deeply attached to.

  Really it is hard to believe that our laxman sir is no more. I got this news when I was traveling from Cuttack to Kolkata and I socked .Really God never keeps good people for a long time… I can not forgot that day (during our sixth semester proj in Ahmadabad) when he told me “Dipankar first people should have good dream then he or she will be inspired to achieve that dream….So dream first\”.

  Really hard to believe and with heartfelt sadness that our Laxman Sir is no more.

  He will be missed. He was a great manager and leader.His interest,determination and challenge to built the base for “Silicon School of IT” and what we can see it today is never ever forgettable.

  His intense gaze tried always to find something new
  His refined thoughts always gathered something fresh
  He groomed and motivated a new band of professionals who wanted to be like him.

  It was really a shocking news and hard to believe that Laxman Sir is no more.His simple living and high thiniking attitude touched everybody’s heart.He was very sportive and enthusiastic.He used to always encourage us during our college days when we were worried.I am still remembering that We (Fisrt MCA Batch of Silicon)had a nice New year Party in Laxman Sir’s house.So many sweet memories, Sir , you will always be with us.   Even I can’t beleive that such a plesant, altrusitic person is not around us.
  I still remember those days in Ahmedabad. Where he has cared we ten students as his sons. Because of him only we got projects in Ahmedabad.

  I was shocked when i heard about the incident of my kaka.I fondly call him(laxman mohanty) by kaka.I & my family burst into tears,when they heard this news.He was a brilliant and intelligent man.when ever he talked to me in phone,he always asks me about my studies and my health.kaka\’s smile cherished us.he always helped the poor and needy.He had a dream to set-up a schoolin Bhubaneswar.He will always be in our thoughts and our minds.

  Falling short of words..what to write..still in shock..Maamu is no more.can\’t believe!!There is always a feeling he is going to come back and everything is going to be alright..as it was..some days back.He has always been an inspiration for all of us..to excel in life..to help others..to dream big and strive hard for it..such a happy-go-lucky person with a million dollar smile on his face..always.Such an intelligent and intellectual person.God has blessed us by relating us to such a wonderful person..we are lucky and will always be.He will always be there with us as a source of inspiration and will always guide us in everything we do..He is right there..I don\’t think he has left us..

  It is hard to believe that mamu is no more.I knew him since my shool days about 28years ago.He was a source of inspiration and guide for all of us.He was gifted with high intellectual and human values.We lost a selfless,and noble man from the world.Tears rolled down when I think of him.He created such a viod in me which can not be filled by any means I pray god to return him again to Earth.

  I run KIDZZ Bloomingdale’s in Sailashree Vihar. I have witnessed Future Feet Play School grow from its inception when few of its founding members visited my school for a first-hand perception of a play school. I have also visited Future Feet twice.

  I have not met Dr Mohanty. But the concept, mission & vision of Future Feet and its website speak volumes of him.

  Bhubaneswar, Orissa & India have lost a jewel.

  I sincerely hope the mamangement & staff of Silicin & Future Feet will live up to his expactaions so that his cherished dreams are fulfilled.

  A Tribute to Dr. Laxman Mohanty

  In your Footprints, I will follow

  I met Laxman Sir in the year 19994, when I started working with him for ORICOM .

  It has been a long association since then, professionally. However, seldom did I realize then, that this man of great intellect and vision will leave such indelible imprints on my entire existence as a human being.

  He is the finest man I have ever known and his spirit will always be alive in my heart. He was a self-made man of extraordinary magnitude.

  He has been a tremendous source of strength and inspiration for me, and one of the hardest things for me to reconcile is how someone so idealistic, noble, intelligent, warm and larger than life could be reduced to a small, frail man damaged and beaten down by time and fate. My main consolation is that despite all this, he hopefully left peacefully, while still active, working and independent and in full control of his faculties, and while was as best as it could have been. One thing I can not forget that you do not know how to scold your employee, even scold so politely. You never harm our sentiments. Your simplicity, honesty, motivated style quite appreciable.

  Laxman Sir, you will always be my mentor, philosopher and guide. You will continue to inspire me, and give me strength during times of trouble, wisdom during times of confusion, happiness during every moment, and light and warmth always. You were the best.

  I miss you, Laxman Sir, and I always will. But I trust that you have experienced profound peace and dignity, and have gone to a better place. Know that in spirit, you will live on forever in the hearts of all of us whose lives you have touched.

  I pray, ‘If there is God, then may God grant your soul everlasting peace, and in whatever comes next, may you lead a better life, filled with good health, happiness, love, wisdom and strength.’ You will truly be blessed because of the blessings you have given all of us. You will be respected, honoured and remembered always, because of the amazing person you were. And you will be loved and held dear for time immemorial. May you rest in peace.

  It has been a bit shocking to me when I saw the e-mail from Prof. Neharika Vhora about the sad demise of Laxman. We never met and could not keep in touch for last few years. Still I remained the member of the group, Future Focus Foundation. During my Ph.D. from BITS I received a communication from him regarding his ideas on the state of education in the country. And slowly, his corrective initiatives took a shape of movement and fascinated me. I remember, I was in initial first few who joined the initiative. Those days our communication used to be very enthusiasic and full of purpose.

  And then I could not keep in pace with life and got drifted away from the initiative for a while. I never knew that he was facing severe health problems……….

  We had been virtual friends for years together Laxman and I did not know that life is so short……..

  May God render peace to your soul, Friend! May He help all of us in fulfilling your dreams through our effort! Amen.

  I just came to know about sad demise of Laxman. He was a wonderful soul. I am speechless that he had to go this way. May his soul rest in peace.

  I am deeply shocked.But can someone tell me what happened so suddenly that lead to his demise?I am unable to come to terms with the news.Probably knowing the cause can help me.

  Following was my instant message sent to ORNET on 13th Aug 2008 soon after I saw an email from our ORNET members on LaxmanBhai’s demise.

  May his Great Soul live in Peace. Many of us who know him know his contributoins to the society over last 2 decades. I had been involved in couple of his initiatives in capacity of a guest and came to know how pragmatic he was, ALWAYS ACTIONFUL. He has written books, articles, pioneered in setting up college, School, company, conducted so many workshops…, again almost all centering around IT. He was visionary and Odisha lost a great son. His last reply to me was in Feb/March where he had mentioned about being sidelined in the school project at BBSR.

  He was so actionful……I do not know..how do I express and what I express about him.. We lost and we lost a lot..am speechless..

  I had known Neharika when she was doing her PhD in Psychology, University of Manitoba. I met Laxman whenever he came to Winnipeg to visit Neharika. When I got an email from the Dept. of Psychology about Laxman… I was devastated. I find it hard even now (March 2009) to accept the fact that I will never get a chance to see Laxman anymore. What a wonderful human being!! He truly believed in “simpe living, high thinking”. I have always had tremendous regard for Laxman and Neharika. I consider myself fortunate that they were able to visit my home during one of his visits. I will forever cherish his memory. My thoughts and prayers will always be with Neharika.

  People like Laxman never die! He will remain in the hearts of all who had the good fortune to meet him. Laxman…You will be missed by one and all….
