Rajasthan asks its IIT to be in Kota; Bathinda in Punjab expects an IIT or an IIM
February 4th, 2008
Following is an excerpt from a report in Financial express.
The Rajasthan Government has asked the Centre to set up an Indian Institute of Technology in Kota, Industry Minister Digamber Singh has said.
At a function yesterday, Singh said "a letter has already been sent to the Centre by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje asking it to set up an IIT at Kota."
He claimed Kota was the most ideal place for setting up such an institute in Rajasthan because it had already become a hub for technical education in northern India.
Following is an excerpt from a report in 24-7pressrelease.com.
The Centre has also been approached to issue No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the two civil airports in the State at Bhisiana in Bathinda and Sahnewal near Ludhiana. An IIT or IIM is also proposed to be set up in the city. With the emergence of all these fast-paced developmental activities, Bathinda is fast emerging on the Real Estate Map of India and one of the most sought after land in Punjab.

The Orissa government should learn to demand things for othre emerging cities and regions the way rajasthan demanded IIT for Kota and it plans to locate AIIMS at Jodhpur. similarly Andhra pradesh located the IIT at Medak instead of Hyderabad. West Bengal had in the past did the same by locating IIT at Kharagpur. So, Orissa should also demand an IIT at Berhampur, AIIMS has already been decided in Bhubaneswar, IIM in Sambalpur and IIITs in Rourkela and Berhampur and Central Univerity at Koraput.

Putting constraints on where the IIT, IIIT, and IIM at this stage would actually backfire. The central government may label the location as inappropriate and decline giving Orissa the institutions.
Remember that Andhra got its IIT first and then decided on its location.
I also do not think that the Orissa government is not doing its part. Naveen Patnaik has demanded an IIT, an IIM, CUs and an IIIT many times. Only the center is not listening. The Centrl Government plays politics in everything, and intense favoritism over the past half century has made Orissa what it is today – a laggard, backward, impoverished state. Orissa’s mineral wealth has made Jamshedpur and the rest of India prosperous, but – tragicaly – not Orissa.
At this point, I am fed up. It is not possible to be reasonable with the Centre. The Central Goverment does not care about fairness and justice. Oriyas may not be left with much choice now except to — Several words edited out by the Editor —
Reminds me of Aldous Huxley who once said that “Liberties are not given they are taken”. In the same vein, one can add:
“Justice will not be given to Orissa, it will be taken”.

The demand for an IIT at Berhampur and IIM at sambalpur is fully justified.Besides, the state government must consider opening of a generaluniversity at Rourkela. this is necessary because Orissa people have started thinking that the state govt.is over-sympathetic towards a particular location. when private institutions are coming in a big way to the capital what is the point in locating almost all the new govt.institutions in the same location.

In case the post is a reply to my comment, I’ll just clarify that I did not imply that the demands for institutions in Western Orissa were not justified. I merely said that the Central Government could use it to further discriminate against Orissa, and that the actual location of the premier instutitions be decided later.

orissa government should consider berhampur to set up iit as there is no govt technical institution in south orissa.Besides this, berhampur is going to be city this year and software technology park of india is yet to be developed at berhampur. in bhubaneswar AIIMS has already been anounced and WCCU yet to come at bhuibaneswar.then IIM at sambalpur on trackto consider.
