ISB to set up its second campus in Mohali, Punjab. Also an IIM?
April 19th, 2008
Following is an excerpt from a report in Hindu.
Indian School of Business (ISB) is likely to set up its second campus in Mohali and is in talks with the Punjab Government for acquiring land.
“We are in the advanced stage of talks with the Punjab Government and something concrete might come up in about a month,” Mr M. Rammohan Rao, Dean, ISB, told Business Line here on Wednesday.
The Hyderabad-based premier business school is pitching for about 70 acres of land which is likely to be considered by the Punjab Government. However, ISB is keen on getting the land with “no strings” attached. …
ISB would be willing to oblige any demands from the Government such as a position on ISB’s board or any say in fixation of fees, etc., he explained.
The Orissa government should approach ISB for a campus in Orissa.
This report in Indian Express says that Mohali will also get an IIM. This may be a case of misreporting as the PIB did not mention an IIM in Punjab. It did mention an IIM in Harayana and the IIM in Haryana could be in a Harayana suburb of Chandigarh.

A good idea.ISB is a pioneer in Management. If opened ib Orissa will improve the existing Business school because of competition.
We should make a move with the GOO>

Initially, AP Govt. was seriously trying to have the second campus at Tirupati and had offered a piece of land also to ISB for this purpose. This was stated by Ms. Mahajan Dean of ISB, Hydrabad one month back and subsequently, confirmed by Rao, Dean. But, ISB is keen to have the second campus at a suitable location in Northern India. Certainly, Mohali was the best on account of various reasons including political, as the present PM hails from Punjab. The next move of ISB to have its third campus in Eastern side. Obiviously, Bhubaneswar would be the ideal chioce in addition to Kolkota. I thik West Bengal Govt. will try its level best to grab the opportunity to have third campus. Thus, Orissa should begin its endevour from today, if it intends to have the third campus. This move is impertative and stems from the fact that Orissa will not get IIM in 11th Plan. What I wish to bring to the notice of Mr. Chitta Baral and other like minded oriyas, who are really interested to see overall educational development in Oriisa, about actions to be taken by this FORUM ? Are we required to take up matter with the CM and side by side with ISB authority? I thik, a Memorandum can be given to the CM requesting him to take up the isse with ISB authority. Thereafter, pursuasions can follow. It is my suggestion only and hope to be taken in right spirit.

Good suggestion by Kishore babu. I have already written to CMO. Couldn’t find Dean ISB’s email. Lets find that and write to both.

IIM AND ISB SHOULD BE OPENED IN PUNJAB .BECAUSE PUNJAB HAVE LOT OF TALENT. IT WILL ALSO INCREASE THE COMPITION AND GOOD FOR FEMALES. LOTS OF GIRL IN PUNJAB COULDNT GO FOR IIM BECAUSE IIM AND ISB WERE OUTSIDE PUNJAB AND PARENTS DIDNT ALLOW THEM. WITH THIS MOVE IT WILL IMPROVE THE INFRASTRUCTURE AS WELL AS CULTURE OF PUNJAB.
SALUTE TO ISB AND IIM FOR THIS MOVE IF THEY OPEN THEIR INSTITUTE IN PUNJAB
