IIIT in Berhampur and NID in Orissa back in the radar

The chances of a National Institute of Design (NID) in Orissa seems bright, thanks to the initiative of Subas Pani.
… During his recent visit to the state he advised the officials of the Government of Orissa to allot land free of cost for a NID at Bhubaneswar.
And accordingly intimate the Government of India to set up the NID in Orissa, advised he.
Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission is favoring the idea of another NID in the country.
Dr.Ahluwalia has also responded positively, when Naveen Patnaik raised the matter with him on the event of proposed NID being shifted to Bhopal. …
While Orissa Government along with leading IT companies has set up an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Bhubaneswar, another IIIT offered by the Government of India may be set up at Berhampur, Dr.Pani suggested.
Accordingly a piece of land may be acquired there and intimated to the Centre as soon as possible, said Dr.Pani.

This is undoubtedly a good move. The other proposed national level institute, which is also in the back burner is NIFT, under the aegies of Ministry of Textiles. Our lone minister in the Central Govt. was making his whole hearted efforts to set up the same in Bhubaneswar/ Berhmpur. No one is aware regarding the progress on this front..
This part, I bring to the knowledge of every one that Her Execellency, President of India’s , proposal for having an IIT at Amravati ( Maharastra) exclusively for women has been forwardeed to the Planning commisssion for requisite action at their end. This would be the second IIT(if approved ) in Maharastra. This would be set up during 11th plan. I would therefore request this forum to expedite our efforts to have IIM at Bhubaneswar during 11th plan. At least, we can get one satelite campus of IIM, Calcutta; akin to the NOIDA campus of IIM, Lucknow. Regards, KCDAS

Great to see the investments by the Govts, for higher educations. It would be good, if Govt can distribute them across different areas of the state, rather than concentrating just around 1-2cities.
I wonder, why western Orissa has been and is being negleted by the state government?
I seriously feel, state government can do a lot to bring all sections and corners of Orissa to the same page.

The second central university in Orissa should be established in an area that does not have a comprehensive university; preferably distributed across the KBK+ districts.

While I appreciate the fact that Orissa is getting a lot of new important (of national prominence) institutes however the fact that all these are coming to Bhubaneswar is not so encouraging. I think Rorukela needs some importance; except for NIT (established some forty+ years ago), there isn’t anything else coming to this city…wondering if someone taking up Rourkela’s cause..

Most of Good institutes are now in orissa except IIFT, NID, IIM and Indian institute of fashion Technology.It is better if govt. propose these institutes in Berhampur or KBK.
