Prof. Surabhi Banerjee named as the VC of Central University of Orissa proposed to be in Koraput

Union HRD Ministry on Saturday named Surabhi Banerjee as Vice Chancellor of the proposed Orissa Central University. The Centre appointed Banerjee, who was the VC of Netaji Subhas Open University, Kolkata, along with 14 other VCs of the 15 new Central Universities in the country.
Noted academician Abdul Wahid has been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu and Kashmir while DT Khathing has been appointed in that post at the Central University in Jharkhand.
A PTI report names the VC of all the new central universities. Following is an excerpt.
Noted academician Abdul Wahid has been appointed the first Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu and Kashmir while D T Khathing has been appointed in that post at the Central University in Jharkhand.
The other Vice Chancellors appointed are Jancy George- University of Kerala, A M Pathan – University of Karnataka, M M Salunkhe – University of Rajasthan, Jairup Singh – University of Punjab, Surabhi Banerjee – University of Orissa, B P Sanjay – University of Tamil Nadu, R C Sobti – University of Himachal Pradesh, Mool Chand Sharma – University of Haryana, R K Kale – University of Gujarat and Janak Pandey – University of Bihar.
While N S Gajbhiye has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya in Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), S K Singh will occupy that post in Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna University in Uttarakhand and Lakshman Chaturvedi in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh.

Has any work actually started on this University. If not why is the Center so enthusiastic in appointing VCs for non-existing universities.
And could they not find someone from the home state??

The appointment of Prof. Wahid as VC of Central Unversity of Jammu and Kashmir is very good sign for higher education system in J&K. He is the honest administrator and hope will lead the university in right way.

Appointing Professor Abdul Wahid as the first Vice Chancellor of newly established Central University in Jammu and Kashmir is a good omen. Professor Wahid isa well known academician ,an upright adminstrator and a kind hearted person. Professor Wahid has already left his mark while functioning as the vice chancellor of University of Kashmir ,Srinagar in recent past.Our all good wishes are with him.

Its a rare pleasure moment to know that a central University is established in Jammu and Kashmir state. Appointing Prof. Abdul Waheed as first VC of central University would realy leads to a quality higher education in state which should match national as well as global standards of higher education.

i am proud of my teacher professor surabhi banerjee of calcutta university english department holding a chair of vice-chancellor of central university orrisa . calcutta university english department miss her like anything . her lectures on paters style and on wuthering heights are well-known by the students of calcutta university . i am confident of the fact that in her stewardship the administration of the university will enhance academically and creative at the same time.

it is a matter of great honour for calcutta university that professor surrabhi banerjee is occupying the gubernatorial post as a vice-chancellor of a central university orissa. i am proud of my teacher of calcutta univesity english department in this regard.may god give her strength to foster research and knowledge .

i feel a sense of joy that central university of orissa is being administered by professor surabhi banerjee of calcutta university english department . her way of administration will lead the university in a right manner of education and research. this is what i feel as her former student of english literature.

HRD minister had already announced that the sessios in Jammu Central
University and Kasmir Central University Will start in July 2010.
But the VC of Jammu Central University is not appointed till date.
It means that higher education is taken for granted.

I feel that Indian Government has first time appointed the right person at this time,I hope if Indian govt do such kind of Selection, no kashmiri will demand for Independant Kashmir
