Careerpoint claims that 21 out of 55 succeeded in IIT JEE

June 5th, 2007

Career point is one of the top coaching centers in Kota. (It is not the top though.) Its advertisement in Samaj today says: “Outstanding performance by CPians. Total selection in IIT-2007 – 21 out of 55.” Overall in 2007 Careerpoint claims 7 in top 50 and 1005 total. In comparison, FIIT JEE claims 43 in top 100 and 2467 overall in 2007, Bansal claims 1400 in BCPL Kota, 130 in BCPL Jaipur, etc. in 2007 and Resonance claims 12 in top 100 and 879 overall in 2007. However FIIT JEE, Bansal and Resonance do not yet have centers in Orissa.

It is very wrong to think that all good things always come outside of Orissa. I have known an institute of Orissa (14 years old to be precise) which has the highest percentage result in the country in Medical Entrance (CBSE-PMT). You must also see the actual facts before saying anything. Today Orissa’s position in Medical Entrance is 3rd (since 2002) in terms of percentage result (quality of the result) in entire India in Medical entrance. Delhi trails behind Orissa. Then why should we idolise names we see outside the state. There was also a front page article in “Samaja” a couple of months back.

Are you refering to Books Institute when you speak of a 14 year old institute that is Orissa’s very own. I know that it is one of the organisations which has been silently changing the education scene of Orissa. This has lead to an overall increase in the number of doctors being made out of Orissa students. Moreover I have observed the type of questions that we get in the classes from the science students has dramatically increased over a period of around 10 years. Orissa is going great guns. I am proud to be an Oriya.

The success of Orissa students in medical entrance exams is great news. Thanks for letting me know. Please write to me with more details and I would be happy to publicize it more. Nothing gives me more pleasure than showcasing successes of Oriyas and Orissa. However, one must admit that Orissa students have been doing badly in IIT JEE exams and somethings needs to be done.

[…] In the comments section of our earlier post a claim has been made that Orissa students are doing very well in medical entrance exams. If it is true then it is great news and with the entry of the national coaching institute Akash, it should get better. This year the homegrown (turned national) coaching agency iBOOKs claims in its ads that 219 students from Orissa were selected in the CBSE-PMT out of which 121 were from the iBOOKS institute. […]
