Art of Living Foundation plans a private university in Orissa

The Art of Living Foundation plans a private university in Orissa. Its chief Sri Sri Ravishankar arrived in Bhubaneswar on December 10th 2006 and is expected to sign an MOU with the Orissa government on this university. The location of the university is tentatively identified as Naraj. (Note that NISER is also expected to be located in that area. Also it was earlier mentioned that the proposed National Law University will be located in Naraj.) Following are some of the news report excerpts on the Sri Sri’s visit and the proposed University.

- Sri Ravi shankar has evinced keen interest for educational development in the state and in the process he has decided to set up an university in the Orissa.
The State Government is all set to sign a memorandum of understanding with Ravishnakar Vidya Mandir Trust (RMVT) for the proposed university on December 12. Likely to be named as Sri Sri University of Art of Living will be the first educational institute for higher studies from the stable of the Art of Living foundation. … Under the traditional subjects, Ayurveda, Yoga and religious studies will be part of the curriculum. Modern disciplines like science, medicine, management, computer science, information technology and law will also be available, said RMVT sources.
A team of the RVMT which visited the State recently had visited several places to locate a suitable site for the proposed university which required nearly 300 acres of land. The Trust members have indicated that the site should be 40 kms away from the State capital and well connected by roads and rails. Of the several places the RVMT team had visited, they found a place near Naraj is most suitable. …
