May 28th, 2009
Its web page is http://nluc.org.in/. Following is information from its page about Why NLU.
WHY NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY ORISSA (NLUO)?1. National Law University Orissa (NLUO) is the youngest member of the group of National Law Universities, which are institutions of excellence in the field of legal education, with Chief Justice of India as its Visitor and Chief Justice of the High Court as its Chancellor. 2. National Law University Orissa has the advantage of having the experience of the Attorney-General of India, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Advocate General of Orissa, judges of the Supreme Court of India and judges of the High Courts’ on its Governing and Executive Council. 3. The prized distinction of NLUO is its location in the most promising State of India. The faster economic growth and growing charm of MNCs in the state has set Orissa as a major destination for Foreign Direct Investments to the tune of approximately Rs. 1,00,000 crore. 4. NLUO is located on the banks of the river Mahanadi, with the classrooms and library affording a breathtaking view of the river and undulating verdant hillsides in the distance. The close to nature location of the campus would be conducive for sustained scholastic activity for the academically inclined students who choose to be a part of this institution. 5. NLUO students would be taught by a group of teachers, dynamic and experienced; and most importantly committed. The faculty is drawn from premier institutions of India and abroad, with most of them being associated with the leading National law Schools, thereby giving them the advantage of being accustomed to the rigours of the Law School model. 6. National Law University Orissa has a unique curriculum. In all probability, we offer the most profound example of integration of knowledge. We have gone beyond the conventional interdisciplinary approach, permitting students of the B.A.LL.B course to take courses of B.B.A.LL.B and vice versa, outside of the major-minor division of papers. 7. NLUO is the first national law school in the country which offers Mass Communication and Journalism as an optional subject, to the B.A.LL.B and B.B.A.LL.B students. 8. NLUO offers twenty four hours internet facility to its students and its teachers would be available to the students even beyond working hours. 9. Since Orissa is mineral rich state and has a long coastline, NLUO aims to concentrate on hitherto areas unexplored by law schools such as Mining Law, Marine Science Law, Water Law etc. 10. NLUO’s state of the art Library, equipped with the latest online resources would afford students’ opportunities for sharpening their analytical skills through in-depth research for projects and moot courts. 11. NLUO would have an extensive range of exciting exchange programmes with leading law schools of India and abroad. 12. NLUO offers the possibility of Honours not only in B.A./B.B.A. but also in LL.B, in group likes Constitutional Law, Business Law, International Trade Law, International Law, Natural Resources Law, Crime and Criminology and Intellectual Property Law.
