Dear Friends,
To day, a meeting was convened by Agamee Odisha in Jaydev Bhawan about "KBK University and related railways and other Development of KBK Districts. The Dias was empty of any chair except the banner for KBK University. People went from the assembly spoke and came back. A very new concept by our President.
The meeting was opened by the address of our President Shree DK Ray, Ex Chairman OERC and Income Tax Commissioner, who welcomed one and all with warm hands. Dr Kasturi Mohapatra, VP of National Child Health Care Foundation, deliberated about Mission & Vision of Agamee Odisha.
Proff Chitta Baral’s write up about KBK university was screened by Dr Santosh Tripathy, our General Secretary and Dr Dhannda Mishra, Ex Principal of JITM Engg College and every body accepted it in Toto. Dr Santosh Tripathy also narrated and explained the audience as to how logically we are correct in demanding KBK University, IIT and IIEST for UCE, Burla.
Followings are the 5 major points agreed by one and all;
I. The central university in Koraput should be a multi-campus one with campuses in all the major towns in KBK+ districts. I.e., the eight KBK districts and the adjacent Gajapati and Kandhamal districts. This university should be more like the universities in the north east in that it must have special quotas for tribals and KBK+ residents.
II. The PM said there will be 30 new central universities. Since there are already about 20 central universities and Orissa has none; besides the central university in Koraput, one of the other universities in Orissa, from a different part of Orissa, must be upgraded to central university status.
III. Branches of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University must be made in the north western districts with high tribal population, in particular Mayurbhanj (tribal percentage 57.87%, literacy 52.43%), Sundergarh (50.74%, 65.22%), and Keonjhar (44.52%, 59.75%); and possibly in Sambalpur (35.08% , literacy 67.01%), Deogarh (33.31%, literacy 60.78%), and Jharsuguda (31.88% , literacy 71.47%).
IV. A greenfield IIT must be established in an appropriate location in Orissa to serve the backward parts of Orissa as well as to be close enough to existing
infrastructure so as to be a viable world class institution.
V. Connectivity to KBK must be upgraded with (a) fast track implementation of the Vijaywada-Ranchi highway and (b) Finishing there important rail projects in
KBK: Khurda Rd – Balangir; Naupada-Gunupur-Therubali; and Lanjigarh Rd-Bhawanipatna-Junagarh-Nabrangpur-Jeypore-Malkangiri
with the last extended to Bhadrachalam Rd thus creating an alternate shorter Ranchi-Hyderabad rail connection passing through the tribal and backward areas.
In between many prominent people expressed their support and they are; Mr Ramesh Ch. Majhi, MLA( Debugam), Mr Sadan Nayak, MLA( Kodinga ), Mr Nimai Ch. Sarkar, MLA ( Malkangiri ), Mr Bimalendu Mohanty & Narendra Mishra both Ex VC Cultural University, Mrs Baliarsingh, ex professor UU, Mr Jyoti, gen secy. AISF, Mr Amiya Pandab, Ex President UU, Prof Pratap Rath, UU, Student Leader Mr Trilochan Moharana from KBK, Mr Umi Daniel from KBK, Mr Sanjay from KBK and so many others.
The most appriciable point from the audience is of Mr Sanja from KBK, who announced that he will donate his 27 acres of land free to KBK University. The auditorium was charged with emotion and most of the participants from KBK spoke higly about Agamee Odisha’s intervention in the right time. They informed that they will be just glad to provide all support of any kind for this movement.
To make the movement mass base, the following three point action plan was presented on behalf of Agamee Odisha by me and all agreed. I also talked about unity among Odia’s as the foremost requirement for any success.
1. Immediate (within seven days)Dharana in front of Assembly and appraisal of all MLA to bring all party resolution in the Assembly.
2. Rally and submission of Memorandum at Bolangir, Kalahandi and Koraput for mass awareness and involvement of the son of the soil( 3rd week of July and 1st week of August)
3. Dharana in front of Parliament in September’07.
Our aim is to make the people aware and put up their demand in right place. Let us see how our KBK vessel is faring in this Politically turbulent rough weather.
Yours,
Lalit Pattnaik
( Our President informed the house that, we missed our core member, Shree Sudersan Das, who organised many a thing but had to rush along with our other members to Balasore for the grim flood situation in the border area )
