Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), including its Dhenkanal campus on its way to become a Media University

A two-and-a-half-year-old proposal by the ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) to upgrade the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a 45-year-old state-run media school, into an international university may be approved.
The I&B ministry is preparing a draft cabinet note on the subject in consultation with the institute, according to a report of the standing committee on information technology tabled in Parliament last week. …
The enhanced status will let it offer bachelor’s and postgraduate degrees instead of the postgraduate diploma it currently offers.
The I&B ministry has also asked the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi for facilities since the media institute is currently located on the JNU campus. The university status will also cover IIMC’s campus at Dhenkanal in Orissa.

IIMC Dhenkanal must be named as National Media University,Orissa & should be autonomous with huge expansion of Campus & quality improvement in infrastructure. The Dhenkanal Railway station also should be upgraded at least must be of a national level station . The NH-42 connecting Cuttack & Sambalpur, which passes through Dhenkanal City must be four (4) laned and properly maintained.Govt. of Orissa should demand Central assistance for Dhenkanal City under JNNURM. The nearby Tourism spots like Sapta Sajya , Joranda should also be improved a lot to find place in National Tourism Map. The three eminent Political leaders Mr. K.P. Singh Deo ,Ex-Union Minister and PCC Chief, Mr. Rudra Narayan Pani,MP,Rajya Sabha ,Mr. Tathagat Satapathy ,MP, Lok Sabha must take initiatives both at the State and Center. The best part is Dhenkanal City has huge surrounding area with plenty of natural beauties for the City expansion.To speed up this process State Govt. must establish a State level Govt. Institution may be of Educational or Financial or Cultural in Dhenkanal City immediately. Then Dhenkanal can become one of the Knowledge Cities of Orissa.
