There are 53 students in the above list. The top junior colleges/schools from where these students come are:
- 16 are from KBR College Cuttack, including the topper and 3 from the top 2 ranks
- FM College Balasore (ranks 2, 17, 19, 19)
- 24 are from BJB College Bhubaneswar, but none from the top 2 ranks
- Irodov College Bhubaneswar (rank 11)
- Royal College Bhubaneswar (ranks 13, 19)
- Ravenshaw Junior College Cuttack (ranks 15 )
- Saraswati Vidya Mandir Nilakanthanagar Berhampur (rank 15, 18)
- Vikash Junior College Baragarh (ranks 17, 19)
- Jupiter +2 Science College (rank 19)
The performance of KBR College (Pira Bazar, Jagatpur, Cuttack) is extremely impressive. (Before today, I had not heard of it.) the performance of the older colleges, especially Ravenshaw is disappointing. Except BJB, Ravenshaw and FM, none of the other older colleges (such as Khallikote College, SCS College, GM Junior College, Govt. College Rourkela, RD Women’s college, Sailabala Women’s college etc.) are in the above list.
My guess is that there is not much teaching going on in the traditional colleges and the performance in BJB is perhaps only due to the top students going in there.

I would be interested to know how many students from top twenty/top 50 in BSE exam finsihed in top twenty/top 50 in CHSE. If the numbers are low we have to ask why it’s low.Since I haven’t done research on this, but anecdotally, based on my experience as a +2 student in basic science college, with a oriya medium back ground, I personally found the transition from Oriya to English really hard.It almost takes a year to make that transition and few more months to get in to the analytical thinking mode that +2 science stream demands, to excel. This transition phase is quite hard for many to overcome. In my batch toppers of standard 10 were no where in the toppers list for +2.This is one drawback Odia medium schools need to fix.

This is true that in traditional colleges the quality of teaching is degrading day by day. That’s why the result shows a much better prospect of the proffessionally run colleges. The state govt and CHSE need to take steps in this regard to revive the quality of education in traditional colleges. Most importantly it should link the performance of the students with the incentive to the faculty and aid to the colleges. This will make them accountable for the results of their respective students.

If I am not wrong,Kalinga Bharati Residential college is run by Parhee tutorial group.Their previous experience in entrance mentoring must have helped them to groom students to give such outstanding result. But the institute should keep its feet on the ground & not get portentous by the achievement.Consistency is required. Its also good to see some other colleges of same kind are doing well like Irodov,Royal & Jupiter.

Here is another interesting revelation. five of the sixteen students of KBR College are actually students who featured in top 10 of BSE exam in 2008.The students are:
DIBYA PRASANNA TRIPATHY,
DEBAPRIYA NALINI RANJAN,
BIJAN SARANGI,
MADHUSMITA SAHOO ,
SOURAV KUMAR PATTNAIK
Where as only two out 24 from BJB could repeat the above feat. They are
*STHITA PRAJNA MISHRA,
*GIRIJA SANKAR PATI,
Another interesting fact is that all of the above students secured 8th to 10th positions in their 10th exam of BSE best tenth list.
Here is the site providing the list of top 10 in 2008 of BSE exam

I think there is a confusion in the +2 results. How can it be many toppers of 2008 are in Ravenshaw also but how they are not managed to get the ranks. And at a sudden how KBRC presenting this kind of results considering its previous performances in +2. And the toppers of this sessions are only 5 and 16 of its students getting position. But it will reveal after the entrance results that how capable are they to get the top ranks. Are they involve in some kind of secret deeds or not.

I think this is the foolish result that have been ever published in this millennium. Just wasted.

If one looks at the web page of KBRC one can figure out why its students did well. I studied in BJB. In BJB, Ravenshaw and all the state colleges you are left on your own. There are some good teachers who teach in the class. But many do not care if they cover all the materials or not. Besides the few exams, there was no notion of home work. Compare that to KBRC.
Read the pages at http://www.kalingabharati.org/course.html
and http://www.kalingabharati.org/subjects_offerred1.html
If they really do that, then it explains why their result is so good.

For all the good work KBR is doing, they charge an arm and a leg. How many students in Orissa can afford that?

The State Govt. and its higher education department are responsible for the disastrous performance of Khallikote college in Berhampur. There are departments in this college being run by only one teacher and there are no lab assistants and required staff in most of the departments. While the recently started Saraswati Vidya Mandir could secure two ranks in top 20, Khallikote College has drew a blank in Science and managed only 1 in Commerce. If this is the state of Khallikote College, one can imagine the state of Higher Education in Gajapati, Boudh, Rayagada, Nuapada, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur and Koraput distrcts.

This result is a kind of déjà vu if you compare them with trends that has been appearing in 10th result across the state. The students from Saraswati Sishu/Vidya Mandir & other private Oriya medium schools are completely outshining some famous Govt. schools. Moreover parents are trusting their methodology & dedication from the part of faculty which is lacking in the case of Govt. colleges. That is why one can see that top 10 students of 2008 batch opted for private residential college where they could have easily got in to any Govt. College.

I think the trend towards the increasing importance of private educational institutions at the secondary level of education is inevitable. This is largely a result of the lack of willingness on the part of the government and paucity of funds required in attracting good talent to the teaching profession.
It is true as one comment said that these private educational institutions charge an arm and a leg but that is the price one has to pay for quality. One of the oft quoted saying is ‘If you think education is expensive try ignorance.’ The question is then how does one normalize for the lack of ‘purchasing power’ that the economically backward students face? Again the answer is the government. It needs to possibly run quarterly sessions/cram sessions if you will for these students. After all the government has a social responsibility to perform. But then again as a comment in another article said the government runs differently (let’s say it does not even attempt to crawl).

What is the performance of these top 20 students of KBRC in IIT, AIEE and Orissa JEE.

I think if the question before the exam was not sperad then the toppers get a chance to secure the position of bottomers
