The salient features of the proposal is not very clear from the news item. Will the proposed university for skill development be limited to +2 passouts, or B. Tech passouts as well? Most IT companies spend a sizeable budget for training new employees. Infosys training center at Mysore which trains more than 15000 new recruitees. Wipro now has a university. In a way perhaps these companies want some sort of a finishing school for its potential recruitees. It appears that there is an attempt to shift the burden of training to the proposed university. The student would pay for the training at the university or take loans to acquire skills which may won’t be generic in nature. So, these skill only will be handy for certain specific jobs. I think skill requirements of different companies in IT related area will not vary much, so the proposal appears to be a smart way of shifting the burden and escape the responsibilities of upgrading skill of new recruitees. However, if a student is not recruited than it is a waste of time and money for that person. It is also not clear how the proposed university will be structured, who are the stake holders other than the proposers. The proposal needs a thorough evaluation.
