Odisha government decides not to approve any new engineering colleges for 2011-12: Samaja
March 11th, 2011
With large number of seats falling vacant in the last two years, this is a good decision. Although, they have decided not to approve any new engineering colleges this year, there may be a handful (5-6) that were approved by the Odisha government last year but did not get AICTE approval in time, which may be able to go forward this year. (I am not sure, if they will need a fresh No Objection certificate from the state.)

Dear All,
It is very unfortunate, If orissa has to compete with Bangalore , Hyderabad, Chennai with qualitative manforce to attract more investment it should have more Engineering college with less fees and should be accessible easily, and this can happen only with healthy competition among engineering college., Orissa is doing extremely poor in 10+2 science education, Orissa govt. should promot engineering college to open 10+2 stream as sister concern, Other wise we are stopping Orissa\’s growth, I am afraid Engineers from outside orissa will be there in top post, and oriyan will have to relinquish with class IV employees. All academician please come foreward to save and grow 10+2 science education standard. instead of stopping growth of orissa.

Dear Editor
In my opinion what th above gentle man sri alok has commented is true. a
we should promote more plus two science education in orissa.
This year in plus two exam around 2.3 lakhs candidates appearing in orissa CHSE board only 52000 students are appearing in science stream
Since all engg. colleges are equipped with physics and chemistry labs/dept and mathematics is there in all technical colleges, i hope govt of orissa should allow starting of plus two science stream in all engg colleges.
All engg. colleges have most experienced faculty members in phy, chem and math, and maximum of them are even ph d holders.
This will be helping engg. colleges in promoting science education also.

Its a good decision. Considering the vacancy of the seats sine a couple of years it is a good decision. Lets improve the quality of the study rather than increasing the seats.
