Following is an excerpt from a report in ibnlive.com.
The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing at Kancheepuram is all set to become an institution of national importance with Parliament today approving a bill in this regard. … Replying to a debate on the bill, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said there was need for more such institutes particularly in backward states like Orissa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan besides Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast. He said if the state governments wanted to set up such institutes, the Centre would provide all assistance.
Odisha should not delay in pushing for the proposed IIIT in Berhampur.

Orissa Government is maintaining an enigmatic silence on the issue of I.I.I.T @ Berhampur after coming with an advertisement months ago. I doubt the seriousness of the state government on bringing a radical change in the higher education landscape in Orissa. The report of the Trilochan Pradhan Committee is gathering dust and there is a visible complacency in the state administration after NISER, IIT and CUO were established. It seems only protests, agitations, exploiting sentiments and vilification campaigns work in our state and people can force the state agree on any issue only when they come on to the streets. This is because the government is totally indifferent to the needs and issues of the people, and issues which impinge on the future development of Orissa.

There seems to be no thought towards getting an IIM to the state as well.
