MindTree Consulting is planning to set up a centre in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, that will house 5,000 staff, a senior company official told NewsWire18 today.
“We have already acquired the land for the Bhubaneswar centre and I expect it to be operational by the end of 2008,” he said.
He said the company will keep adding to its manpower at the rate it has been doing so far, provided there is no slowdown in the business.
Bangalore-based MindTree currently has a staff count of over 5,000, mostly at its Bangalore centre.

These plans might not materialise. The company has run into trouble with regard to the plot of land they have been allotted at Bhubaneswar, as they have been illegally allotted privately owned land, whose owner has gone to the High Court of Orissa, and obtained a stay against IDCO for encroachment of the land. There are allegations that the erstwhile MD of IDCO, acting in cohorts with corrupt revenue dept officials, took this step in exchange for favours. Mindtree cannot develop the land or even occupy it till the matter is resolved in court.
