Revival of FCI Talcher on the cards
Angul, Anugul- Talcher - Saranga- Nalconagar, Bhubaneswar-Dhenkanal- Anugul, Fertilizers, RCF July 8th. 2007, 9:29amLivemint reports that RCF (Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers) plans to revive the FCI plant in Talcher. Following are excerpts from that report.
Public sector enterprise Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) has planned a capital expenditure of Rs 10,000 crore for the next five years and will consider tapping the capital market for raising funds.
The company is talking to the government on its initial public offer and the process would take six to eight months, …
Of the Rs 10,000 crore capex planned, the debt-equity ratio would be 2:1 and hence the company could borrow up to Rs 7,000 crore while the rest could come from its IPO, he said.
“The company expects to finance its projects largely through internal generation and debt, apart from other modes of generating funds as may be appropriate,” it said in its annual general report.
With the capex money, RCF wants to revive two units–Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation’s unit in Durgapur, West Bengal, and Fertilizer Corporation of India unit in Talcher, Orissa.
Both the units would absorb about Rs 6,500 crore, Jha said.

It would be great if FCI Talcher is revived by RCF without any further delay.I served there and shutting it was not a proper decision, as when it was stopped, it was running and producing.I sincerely wish that I get an opportunity to contribute my mite for its revival in some capacity. I joined FCI when it was in construction stage, commissioned and operated the plant,a total of 29 years.I saw and experienced the high and low of it.Ironically,I was the Chairman of the closing comitee of this plant.Frankly speaking we were handed a totally third rate technology and it is to our credit that we as a whole ,specially Gasification plant was operated to its full capacity ,when nobody gave us any chance to suceed, but that is history now.Our colleges did excellent job in other sections of the plant. You can control Cancer but cannot get away from it as we had inherited similar plant. It will be great if it revives in any other shape, I wish those who inherit it do a DECENT job.Good luck to them.

For the first time in Indian History a CPSU like FCI was wind off and closed down forcibly when it was producing in full swing in the year 2002.I had worked there at FCI Talcher(in hospital during closure) for 29 years since 1973 as Personal Assistant. Both the Union & Officer Association failed to impress the authority/court to stop closure. However it is our bad luck & No body should be blamed.
If it is in any way revived , all credit goes to Mr. Srikant Jena, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers. Best of luck for the revival of the plant. We have earned bread & butter from this Plant & can never forget the place, its surroundings, friends and local people.

A totally wrong decision by Central Govt. to close down the FCI Plant while it was running and producing urea in its full capacity in the year 2002. Any way what has happened is history and no mud throwing now. All credit goes to Mr. Srikant Jena, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers if it is revived after 8 years of its closure. I had served there for 29 years and love the plant, its surroundings, local people, friends & colleagues.
Would love to serve again if provided a chance. I had worked for almost 19 years in the Medical Deptt.as Personal Assistant.
Best luck for the revival.

When only 1500 crores were asked Govt.threw the proposal to cold store. Now Govt.wants to spent a lot to revive with change of raw material, availablity of which remains in question.Talcher was producing urea from coal which had no other use unlike valuable oil or natural gas.Let us see how sincerly son of the soil fighting for his people & country as a whole.

I want to know whether the news is correct or political statement to make people FOOL and win elections .There have been many statements by different ministers withen last ten years about running of the plant only to make us have day dream .The FCI management and Govt. spoiled our and our childrens future by closing the plant and other institutions forcibly.
