Intercity Trains from Bhubaneswar/Puri
Bhubaneswar- Cuttack- Puri, Railways October 30th. 2009, 11:57pmA discussion in IRFCA piqued my interest to find the Intercity trains from Bhubaneswar/Puri. Intercity was defined as: "express trains that start in the morning for a destination and return by the evening and are catering to comman man, so we should exclude Shatabdis." Such trains from/to Bhubaneswar/Puri are:
- 2073/2074 BBS-Howrah Jan-Shatabdi Express
- 2821/2822 BBS-Howrah Dhauli Express (to be extended to Puri)
- 8303/8304 Puri-Sambalpur Express (Should be extended to Belpahar)
- 2893/2894 BBS-Balangir Express (Should be extended further than Balangir)
- 2891/2892 BBS-Baripada Express
- 8415/8416 Puri-Kendujhargarh Express (to be extended to Barbil)
- 8413/8414 BBS-Paradeep Express (to be extended to Puri)
- 8411/8412 BBS-Visakhapatnam Express
- 8105/8106 BBS-Rourkela Express (New. Not operational yet.)
I think within a year there will be a new Intercity connecting:
- Bhubaneswar to Parlakhemundi. This will then get extended to Gunupur.
The following extensions should also happen in a couple of years:
- BBS-Balangir to Bhawanipatna and then to Junagarh.
- BBS-Baripada to Bangiriposi
I think the following two day time trains (not strictly inter-cities) make sense and should be pursued:
- Bhubaneswar-Koraput (679 kms, will need two rakes)
- Bhubaneswar-Raipur (via Titlagarh, 687 kms, will need two rakes)
Finally, if the BBS-Rourkela intercity works well then another such intercity with reverse timings need to be introduced.

I dont think there is any point in introducing day time intercities to Koraput or Raipur, unless journey time can be cut short by a few hours. As a day time express would mean that the whole day is lost in the train, which wont be liked by intercity passengers.
Instead an overnight express should be planned for Rourkela, keeping in mind that a large no. of people travel to Rourkela by overnight buses.
Also a day time intercity expresss to Bhawanipatna may not be possible until the Khurda Rd to Bolangir line is complete, as the travel time by present route will probably be around 10hrs.

Daytime trains have their purpose and night time trains have their purpose. Otherwise there would not be day long day time trains like Ispat or Janmabhoomi. Of course if the time can be cut short that would help.

I sincerley request all concerned to raise the issue of a direct train link between Berhampur and Rourkela. This is regressive that the Berhampur-Rourkela train link, which was there till 2002 was withdrwn without any alternative train being introduced. If Rourkela-Bhubaneswar is extended upto Berhampur, it will benefit lot of people of both the cities and regions.

we can always start an express train from Rourkela to Berahmpur via Keonjhar and after some time can be extended till Vishakapatnam.I believe there is a train between Vishakapatnam and BBSR.It can be extended till rourkela via keonjhar and give a direct link between the two cities.

Chitta Sir,
I have an idea which can solve the problem of maoists and as well as unemployment in the maoists dominated area.
Bondamunda near to Rourkela has got ample amount of Railway land and its one of the largest goods yard in the country. What we can do that we with the support of all the prominent leaders can demand for a rail coach factory or a locomoative factory for railways.Once this gets approved we can flash out an ad on all local nad national newspaper that maoists who put down there arms and surrender will be given preference for a job at the factory and i am sure it will definetly give a huge positive response from this tribal domintated area.Even we can priotize the jobs ,majority of jobs for the local tribal people. Why i am choosing bondamunda thats because people can grow from this region and will work hard to make it happen rather than asking something else in any other place.Even the railways wont hesitate because there is enough land to setup the factory. And this can bring an end to naxalism and unemployment. Please suggest.

It is a big surprise that there is no direct train connectivity between 2nd and 3rd population city of Orissa i.e BERHAMPUR & ROURKELA. I believe it is a genuine demand and hope the concerned will highlight the issue.
