Nikon India, the 100% subsidiary of Nikon Corporation the leaders in imaging technology has started Nikon Collection Centre (NCC), an initiative taken by Nikon India to cater to the wider base of Nikon customers by floating Camera Collection Points across locations, especially the non metro areas.
… The collection centres would act as main contact point for collection of any Nikon Imaging Products ( D-SLR’s, COOLPIX Compact cameras, NIKKOR lenses and accessories) that shall be sent for repair to the nearest Service Facility Centre for necessary correction by NCC. Once repaired, the product will be sent back to NCC from where customer can collect his product.
Under the plan for the business year 2010-2011, Nikon has already started the services in Bhopal, Noida & Mangalore. Going forward Nikon plans to start the services in Siliguri, Dehradun, Kanpur, Nagpur, Mysore and Tiruanantpuram within this month and Dhampur, Sambalpur, Udaipur, Varanasi, Shimla, Aitsar, Jammu, Agra, Coimbatore, Vishakapatnam and Rajkot taking the total to 20 by the end of this financial year.
Following is an excerpt from a report in Hindustantimes.com.
IBM has chalked out plans to expand its business development processes to smaller cities in the country over the next couple of years. The company plans to spread its footprint to 45 cities of India. At present, a large part of the company’s business comes from the metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
“Business activities of small and medium business enterprises are increasing at a fast pace in smaller cities of the country and it is logical for us to expand our footprint across the country,” said Nipun Mehrotra, vice president, general business, IBM India and South Asia. He said with the growth of Indian economy, the small and medium enterprises would flourish and opportunities would increasingly come up in cities such as Ranchi, Ludhiana, Tirupur and Jharsuguda, among others.
Following is from http://eylex.co.in/Pages/Sambalpur.aspx. The mall in Sambalpur is promoted by K.K. Homes (a local Developer of Sambalpur) and will have a three screen multiplex with 800 seats. Its target Operational date is March 2011.

This is really great news. Business in small cities will ensure inclusive growth and will act as a positive catalyst for overall scenario of the state. While malls and multiplexes in Sambalpur and may be in other cities of Odisha is a welcome news, unfortunately we still don’t have a single multiplex in bbsr which have a reasonable target audience for the same.

Happy New Year readers of Orissalinks.com/Odishalinks.com. Orissa’s small towns have tremendous potential for businesses that rely on footfalls and types of products/services that rely volumes. The coming years should see a lot of action of the sort mentioned such as the setting up of malls, cinema complexes and restaurants. Local businesses and developers have a tremendous first mover advantage that they can capitalize on before the big players acquire them. One example of this is local cable operators who have been bought over by bigger outfits such as OTV (Orissa Television). It is quite likely in a couple of years many local cinema operators would have been bought over by Reliance Cinemas/PVR Cinemas.

I really do not understand why opening of a mall is published in this website? How does it make a difference?
Do you think opening of a mall or multiplex will improve the socio-economic condition of Sambalpur or for that matter any region?
Let me clarify that I have no ant-mall opinion. No doubt, they provide better options for the consumers. But they can not bring any direct development to any region. Rather they take away our money and will invest at some other place.

i really don’t understand why some people get jealous on the development sambalpur region.
mall and multiplex will create hundreds of direct nd indirect employment. it will provide better lifestyle. competition will be there so that consumer will get benefit.
i remember in 2004 when ANAND WORLD nd HARJIT PLANET opened their mega garment showroom in sambalpur every body was in doubt. are they going to success in a conservative city like sambalpur? but they create history. now see the garment scenario of sambalpur. every brand has its presence in sambalpur. even small shops owner realize that if they are not going to modernize their shop then they will loose their customer. lot of student got jobs. price came down. then how can anyone say that it will not improve the socio-economic condition.
now sambalpur hasn’t gud cinemahall. so if multiplex will come then they will also get modernize.

I was also little skeptical about the mall in sambalpur…will it work or not. Local developers in sambalpur are very much courageous, i must say. They had invested there hard earn to a thing with which they are not being acquainted with. I had a chance to talk with the developers. All they are waiting for 30th March i.e. opening of Domino z pizza, because that was the first store which was going to open up and that’s gone decide about the people perceptions for a mall in sbp. Every body in the mall had twisted there fingers for better response. The day arrives that day and day following thereafter i can see people queuing up for the thing which they had somehow managed to taste outside sambalpur and the response was overwhelming….that prompt big bazar to launch nearly 3000 items in sambalpur, single largest launching of item by future group (big bazar) in odisha not even in bbsr. It’s not about rourkela, cuttuck or some other cities having it or not having it, it’s all about the business and the population. Reliance fresh is going to open up , pvr cinema’s also going to make its presence felt in sambalpur. However the deadline for these two mega project is yet to be finalized.

Sir, Sambalpur is a 250 years old place, its present population is less than 3 lacs.where as Rourkela is just 60 year old place & now its population is 7 lacs approx.Rourkela’s per capita income is highest in odisha. Rourkela’s land cost is higher than BBSR also.Rourkela’s literacy percent is higher in odisha.Railway erening highest revenew within odisha from Rourkela railway region.Rourkela’s having a mini India cultural Image. These are the the reasons for why Rourkela peoples requiring developments within its circle. And Rourkela being negleted by the Govt since a decade.Rapidly growing traffic, population, vehicles ect ect requiring advance and hudge infrastructural development in Rourkela.Rourkela having 3 township(1)Civil township (2)Industrial township (3)Fertiliser township. And each township having population of 2.25Lac population. The developments beings carried our by SAIL, Rourkela steel plant only. You cant imagine the negligence og Govt within its region.I m not comparing Rourkela with BBSR CTC SBP or BHPR. I m just asking why govt ignoring RKL ? Rourkela having a NIT & STEEL PLANT only. Even the govt didnt thing upon the 2nd Bridge for Rourkela where as Between BBSR n CTC there4 are more then 8 bgidre(2 are under construction). Just think friends a 7 lac populated place municipality not been declare as corporation why ? Total wards within the Rourkela would be more than 55 to 60 if we consider all three township cited above. Now Rourkela Stee plant is going to be the biggest Steel production plant of India after 2013 marchEven the Steel Authourity Of India Limited is going to established a SS plant as Salem (Karnataka). These are the reason . Big bazar is not an agenda or other things are not as issue. Just remember is sports also Rourkela’s peoples are famous. Many hockey stars are from Rourkela. In cricket Western samurai Rourkela already shown its strength. But there are not a Sports authourity here.As bhubaneswar cuttack were developing in costal region Rourkela sambalput would must be taken up in western region. So quit copitition between RKL n SBP lets compromise our odds n owes and lets us fights with the govt fok our rights n development within our region.Do you ever knows about the conflicts between BBSR n CTC ? So why we…..
December 16th, 2012 at 10:43 am
@Mahes kumar,I completely agree you. Rourkela doesn’t get its share because rourkela people are very inactive politically. Its full of migrant population. Nobody bothers for its development. Being a city of 7 lakh population its not even a corporation. Where as berhampur is corporation with just 4 lakh population. Sambalpur has got something because they are somewhat active in politics. But look at jharsuguda. Basic infrastructure is a mess there. Malls & multiplex could have opened in rourkela earlier. But there is no place in prime location to set up a mall.Land belongs to railways,SAIL ,state govt & adivasis.
