Odisha district-wise population and other 2011 census statistics
2011, Overall Odisha June 24th. 2011, 10:30amThe following is from the Odisha datasheet at censusindia.gov.
Based on the above map, the population of the Capital area consisting of Puri, Cuttack and Khurda districts is about 6.5 million. My guess is that if one draws a radius of 70 kms around the Bhubaneswar Secretariate-Assembly area, then the population of that would be between 5 to 6 million.

According to the latest Census data on Urban population in Orissa, Khordha District has an Urban population of 10.8 lakh, followed by Ganjam with 7.7 lakh and Cuttack with 7.3 lakh. It means BBSR has again failed to become a million plus city and the state Govt played prank on Berhampur by first notifying and then going back on the merger of periphery villages with the Municipal body thereby its population barely reaching 5 lakhs,or may be a little lesser than that as Ganjam has 18 NACs. Cuttack city it seems has shown poor growth and that is why Cuttack district has shown slow urbanization. Overall I blame the state Govt. for repeating its past mistake of freezing municipal limits and not trying to understand its developmental implications. Size does matter in development planning and attracting Institutions and Service enterprises will be easier with a large size of urban population. The state has failed to read the need this time as well.
