From this table the population figures of major cities of Orissa are likely to be in the following range:
Bhubaneswar: (8.7 lakh- 9.2 lakh)
Cuttack: (6.0 lakh- 6.5 lakh)
Rourkela: (5.5 lakh-5.8 lakh)
Berhampur: (4.8 lakh- 5.0 lakh)
Sambalpur: (2.0 lakh- 2.2 lakh)
Overall, rate of urbanization seems to be extremely poor in Orissa during the last decade. Orissa is the only state among the all major states of India which doesn’t have a million plus city. While the state Govt considers the Capital and Cuttack as twin cities but doesn’t take them as a single unit in population enumeration. Similarly, the areas of cities like Berhampur and Rourkela should have been expanded long ago which has resulted in lower population numbers then they actually have.
