Sambalpur, July 13: The historical city of Sambalpur will get a new look soon. The comprehensive development plan of the city is being given its final touches.
A private company engaged to prepare a blueprint for the development of Sambalpur is preparing a comprehensive development plan for the city. Sambalpur, along with Hirakud and Burla Notified Area Council and a few adjoining villages of Rengali, Dhankauda and Maneswar blocks of Sambalpur district, are being incorporated in the new plan.
Gujarat Industrial and Technical Consultancies Company (Gitco) is preparing the comprehensive development plan for the new look of the city. “A master plan for eight cities in Orissa is being prepared. Different cities have different consultants. Gitco has been entrusted with the responsibility to prepare the master plan for Sambalpur, Burla and Hirkud region,†said Bandita Mohapatra, planning member of Sambalpur Development Authority.
“Several agencies have been involved to prepare the master plan for the city. Orissa Space Application Centre (Orsac) has provided the satellite images of the city and the adjoining areas to the consultant company. The next step will be to draft the master plan. The plan will cover 476.56sqkm and 67 additional villages. As per the agreement executed with the consultant for the purpose, data pertaining to 498 villages is being digitised,†said Bandita.
“In this plan, the city will be divided into different zones. There will be residential zones, vending zones, industrial zone and public utility zones in the city. Moreover, there will be a green belt where parks and other things have been planned for recreation and amusement. There will be a health complex, an education complex and software parks in the city. The city will be planned in such a way that various places will be easily accessible. We expect the draft master plan for the city to be ready by the end of September. And the final master plan will be prepared by the end of December this year,†added Bandita.
She said that the old city might get small changes. However, she said that changes in the old city would be brought to only those places where it would be possible.
“It will be a landmark for the future development of greater Sambalpur. The Sambalpur Development Authority will submit the comprehensive development plan and views of the people to the government after it gets finalised in our level,†said Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, chairman, Sambalpur Development Authority.
