I am not quite sure this will work out. Perhaps a flight that has a stopover at Rourkela might make more sense – something like Kolkata – Rourkela – Ranchi or Kolkata – Rourkela – Raipur. Already Spice Jet is thinking of connecting Tier II and Tier III cities in the South perhaps something similar is required in the East.

Well somehow its starting.lets see how other airlines respond to this.Well i belive Rourkela can serve the entire Rourkela-Jharsuguda-Sambalpur-Bargah region.I dont know why the govt took no interest for developing the RkL airport.We all know the airport is under SAIL but that could have sorted out with dialogues and agreements.The Rourkela airport is the only airport other than BBSR in Orissa and i strongly recomend to develop in no time.In the past we had news that state govt is taking initiative to develop the airport.lets see in coming days if thats true.

On Berhampur Airport, according to news reports the State Government is diverting a portion of land acquired by TATA near Patropur for a new airport as there is no scope for expansion of the airstrip near Berhampur University. Noteworthy to mention here is that while the TATAs acquired about 3800 acres of land, they have sought SEZ status for only 2800 acres and that leaves around 1000 acres of land with them. This patch of land is just adjacent to NH-5 on the Berhampur-Chatrapur stretch. But seems to be a project for the long run.

@STINGIDEA.
Previously an airline named Vayudoot operated on the route u hve mentioned Calcutta-Rourkela-Ranchi
We shuld plan Rourkela-Bhubaneswar or Ranchi-Rourkela-Bhubaneswar
Kolkata-Rourkela-Ranchi and Kolkata-Rourkela-Raipur is fine
Just like Jamshedpur-Ranchi-Delhi we can have Rourkela-Ranchi-Delhi.
The runaway needs to be extended by 200 meters and with a little widening it can accomodate Boeing and Airbus planes
Ranchi will be connected with Bengaluru hence we have to work fast
