I wish the CM follows up this populist move by making Bhubaneswar more bicycle friendly. I do realize that it is one of the few Indian cities to have bicycle lanes, but on the other hand the city that is growing outwards is doing nothing to keep this feature on its roads. As a result Bhubaneswar is beginning to look like most other cities in India. A city that prided itself as bicycle friendly is starting to embrace highways and sub-urban sprawl that is so common and retrograde. In some ways the process is already irreversible. However, I do hope somebody somewhere with the power to change things will step up. The city is at a molten stage when many of the wrongs of other cities in India can be improved upon but the million dollar question is can we imagine a different future?
