Odisha agrees to 40 more acres for the Jharsuguda airport; this airport is very important for the developement of that part of Odisha; the progress is too slow
Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Jharsugurha, Rourkela- Kansbahal, Sambalpur, Sambalpur-Burla-Jharsuguda, Sundergarh January 8th. 2012, 3:32pmFollowing is an excerpt from a report in Pioneer.
Though the AAI had asked the State Government to make available a total of 815 acres of land for the airport project, the latter had requested the AAI to scale down the land requirement since maximum 734 acres are available in the area.
Now, the State Government has assured the AAI to provide additional land of around 40 acres for upgradation of the airstrip. Patnaik said the 40 acres of land would help construct a 6,000-feet-long runway. The district Collector has been told to identify suitable land and clear the encroachment, if any, before handing over the land to the AAI.
Although the above is a good step, considering the important of this airport towards well-rounded development of Odisha the government is too slow. It needs to move faster.

The state needs to be more aggressive about timelines! Hopefully international flights will start operating from the BBSR airport soon. Also why can’t the state think of doing something with the unused airstrips across the state?

Ha Ha..wow..what an initiative.I mean its like instead of upgrading the existing airports we are going for a new setup which is again a distance dream in the present scenarios. The example has already been set.How can one trust that the airport at JSG will comeup where as the already existing airport at Rourkela can start in no time. Some minor renovation and infrastructure development and we have our second airport in Orissa. Why we need to wait for 2 to 4 long years when there is an existing airport. And moreover i dont understand the logic. Is JSG-SBP region is more important than RKL ?When that happened? When most of the people from SBP and JSG region are shifting to RKL for a better life. How can the airport can come up at JSG?Ok fine even its coming ..there is no time frame. We all know how govt works on deadlines. So why cant govt discuss with SAIL and AAI to upgrade the RKL airport.I guess i am making sense !

Odisha Government is now under the control of such persons, who are against the development of Rourkela. Even after presenting genuine demands like Rourkela Division, the Government has favoured the extension of Sambalpur Division to Sundargarh, which clearly represents the neglecting biased attitude of the Government.
I would like to mention that citing naxal threat to Chakradharpur, Railway officials at Tatanagar are planning to shift the headquarters there, which will be a big blow to Odisha part of SER. So the choice is left with all the people reading this post, there is still some time left, or else its gone forever.

The state government is not serious about regional airports in Odisha and these kind of reviews are nothing but routine reviews. For last 5-6 years the state govt is reiterating the same line that Jharsuguda airport will be a reality and there is not even 1% progress in that direction. There is total letargicity in the state administration and the babus and netas are happy that their needs are well taken care of through BBSR and who cares about other less-fortunate places like Berhampur or Rourkela. Politicians generally indulge in rhetoric but in our state even a rhetoric or a false promise doesn’t come from politicians. Heavens won’t fall if the state govt says we have in mind plans for new airports in the state at X or Y place in due course. Even that will create some amount of optimism among the people but even that is not forthcoming. What a sad state of affairs here in Odisha compared to other states. Even a lesser educated and suave than our CM, Arjun Munda of Jharkhand has plans for 4 new airports through PPP mode. Something is horribly wrong in our state. Our approach is if we get one airport, as we have it today, things should end there and others should start depending on that instaed of asking for more. Development is all about bigger dreams and ideas and a quest for change. But status-quo seem to be the bottom line in Odisha politics.

Tata becoming a railway division will become a reality because we in Odisha are soft spoken people. We dont want violance even if its against the law.Something is terribly wrong with Odisha govt.We are in a state where we got resource but dont have the right person to command.Someone having a personality like Mr Naveen Patnaik have least influence in delhi. We need a leader who can be aggresive like Mr late Biju patanaik.Otherwise the Rourkela steel plant today wont have come up at Rourkela at any cost.So i would request Mr CM to have a look and reconsider Rourkela for the airport and railway division. Now even the railway ministry might be confused..what exactly odisha is looking for.For most part of the year we demanded RKL division under ECOR.Then came demand of RKl divison under SER and now extend SBP division covering RKL.Why RKl is suppose to come under any division when it can be a division. What diffrence it makes if we come under SBP division instead of CKP division.Hope concerned officials take a note of this.

“There is total letargicity in the state administration and the babus and netas are happy that their needs are well taken care of”
In some sen this is the story of Odisha and Odia people. We are lethargic and low risk takers (‘sukha bhata’ types). We need to learn from Gujaratis and the Gujarat chief minister. Look at this man. He goes all the way to China to solicit for investments. He rolls out the red carpet for car-makers. He follows through on his commitments. We seem to commit to everybody, but do nothing for nobody.
“who cares about other less-fortunate places like Berhampur or Rourkela.”
It is true that most of the new developments are taking place in BBSR. But in some sense this is inevitable. I am not batting for BBSR here (I am not from the city), but it is same the story across India. Is there development away from Kolkata, Patna…etc. People, industries naturally gravitate towards larger urban centres, so BBSR will hog the limelight come what may. We need to make our peace with that. This is not to say that we can’t use the airport at RKL or privatize/BOT other ones (especially the smaller ones)
“Something is horribly wrong in our state.”
Absolutely. Without a doubt. I have been saying this all along. Can’t we focus on implementation? There is too much rhetoric. What has happened to all the MoUs? This government has been in power for more than a decade ( I am not saying the Congress will do a better job just in case you think I am a Congress stooge. They’ll probably do much worse!) and doesn’t have too much to show for it.

Jharkhand is really going very fast.A national airport at Ranchi, another commercial airport at Jamshedpur. The airport at Deoghar is to be developed for which 675 acres of land will be acquired. SAIL is actively supporting the development of Bokaro Airport
And last but not the least, the tribal land of Dumka is also scheduled to get an airport with the help of Reliance

I came to know that Railway Budget proposals for Visakhapatnam are from the people itself and not the state Government. In Rourkela they created RDSC for developmental activities comprising of many apolitical organizations. But they could not progress beyond the extension of Jammau Tawi-Hatia Express to Rourkela. Division or connectivity is not their priority as many hail from North India, and have joined the organization in order to press out their personal demands

By connectivity I meant intrastate connectivity and connectivity to South India
