Jairam Ramesh began the process of taking down the Indian economy and turned Ministry of Environment into a secret instrument for a new licence raj: Tavleen Singh
CENTER & ODISHA, ENVIRONMENT, EXPOSING ANTI-ODISHA-GROWTH SCHEMES, Puri, Universities: existing and upcoming June 3rd. 2012, 11:11amFollowing is an excerpt from an article by Tavleen Singh in Indian Express.
So a junior minister, Jairam Ramesh, was allowed to begin the process of taking the Indian economy down by stopping huge infrastructure projects after investments worth thousands of crore rupees had already been made. Why did the Prime Minister not stop the Ministry of Environment from being turned into a secret instrument for a new licence raj?
Unfortunately, Odisha bore the biggest burnt of Jairam Ramesh’s folly when he stopped Vedanta University.

I wouldn’t blame Jairam Ramesh as much as I would blame Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi came, danced with the tribals at Lanjigarh and then left. He claimed he was their Sipahi in Delhi (never mind the fact that he has almost been literally reduced to one).
But I think blame games apart Odisha must have a policy that looks at land acquisition more deeply. Why does the government have to acquire land for private companies? Why can’t companies do it on their own? What is a fair price to be paid for unskilled people who will part with their land and perhaps their only means of security? Should natural resources (such as a water) be given away freely without thinking of the consequences for the general population?

Some excerpts from http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/government-has-no-business-to-be-in-business-pm-must-accept-reality-narendra-modi/articleshow/13878275.cms :
Begin:
lashing out at the Congress-led UPA government for sending “enforcement agencies” after business houses with investments in Gujarat.
… “They (the Centre) don’t want the state government to perform and they place hurdles. This is naturally making the investor jittery. They (investors) want to work with state governments, but the Centre is playing the obstructionist,” Modi said.
End.
My comment: The same is true with respect to Odisha. The central government has played obstructionist with respect to Odisha too.

Earlier I used to be a supporter for Vedanta uiversity. But then I decided to do a field survey of my own. And that changed my opinion. I am no more a supporter of Vendanta university at proposed site of Puri-Konark highway.
Although I support concept of Vendanta university as such, but I am against it proposed site.
Reason: It is a well known fact, where human beings have gone, they have brought apathy to surrounding environment. Puri-Konark highway is one of the few remaining nature’s paradise with precious mangrove forests. If constuction brought in the scale, that is being proposed via Vendanta, for sure it will be the begining of end of those forest. With students will come supporting population, followed by more tourist traffic, followed by concrete infrastructure & so on…
Rather I would say Vendanta should take some waste land & develop it. Waste land remained after mining (their own mines) could be a place to start with.
Also seeing dubious records of vendanta, I doubt them. Vendanta university could be a means to capture those cheap huge land close to economic hub of Odisha.

Dear Chiita Sir,
You rare really doing a heart touching work for development of Modern Odisha by putting all necessery comments and suggestion. Congress and BJB cannt develop the state because they dont know the pulse of Odia people. Remaining only Naveen Babu (Our dear Papu)though he is showing some sign of developing Odisha into a developed state by another 15 years. But it’s not suffcient comparing to other states in India.Other states will be way ahead always of Odisha in terms of development.Although he is using his clout to bring some funds from Union Govt, but not suffcient, unlike Jayalaitha and Karuna nidhi or Chandrababu Naidu, or like Mamata Banaarjee.
The better and best way is to split the BJD into two party which has been showing sign between Paryee and Naveen. It will have greather advanatage for negotiation and will give more leverage for future.
Hope for the best Odiaha. Jay Jagannath !!!!!
